In Teilen des Stadtgebietes, etwa bei den Höfen Bartshausen bei Wybelsum und Rote Scheune bei Twixlum, liegt das Areal unter Normalhöhennull.

Die Gefahr einer Sturmflut mit einer Höhe von mehr als 4,50 m über NHN besteht zurzeit nicht.
