Her story is an example of the pragmatic approach to – and to some degree tolerant view of – extramarital affairs in the upper social classes at the time. Margareta Slots died in 1669. Her grave lies in Vada church in Uppland.

In 1633, during the Thirty Years' War , Gustav entered the Swedish military service and the next year was appointed Lutheran Administrator of the Prince-Bishopric of Osnabrück .
