Dalkeith Palace is a country house in Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland. It was the seat of the Dukes of Buccleuch from 1642 until 1914, and is owned by the Buccleuch Living Heritage Trust. The present palace was built 1701–1711 on the site of the medieval Dalkeith Castle, and was latterly renamed Dalkeith House .

Commissioned by Anna 1st Duchess of Buccleuch, Dalkeith Palace was designed by architect James Smith, Scotland’s leading architect of the time and completed in 1711. The original medieval castle, which stood on the same site had been occupied by the Buccleuch family since 1642.
A brief history of Dalkeith Country Park. Dalkeith Country Park has been in the Buccleuch family for over 300 years and the site itself can be traced back to Roman times. The ancient woodlands are now a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) with some trees over 900 years of age.
Dalkeith Palace was built in 1702 on the site of an earlier Castle and until the 1920s was the principal seat of the Montagu Douglas Scott family in Scotland. The Palace was the creation of Anna Scott, the 1st Duke of Monmouth and Buccleuch’s widow, who employed James Smith, Scotland’s leading architect in classical style at the time.
