Ferdinand Meldahl GCVO (16 March 1827 – 3 February 1908) was a Danish architect best known for the reconstruction of Frederiksborg Castle after the fire in 1859. Meldahl was one of the leading proponents of historicism in Denmark.

Ferdinand Meldahl fue un arquitecto danés que ejerció gran influencia en la arquitectura y arte de su país durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX y uno de los principales impulsores del historicismo.
Las obras no se retomaron hasta más de un siglo después gracias a una iniciativa privada y fueron finalizadas en 1894 por Ferdinand Meldahl. Meldahl modificó los proyectos anteriores y creó un templo barroco con la mayor cúpula de Escandinavia, inspirado en la basílica de San Pedro de Roma.
Tietgen got Ferdinand Meldahl to design the church in its final form and financed its construction. Due to financial restrictions, the original plans for the church to be built almost entirely from marble were discarded, and instead Meldahl opted for construction to be done with limestone.

Built in two stages in 1858 and 1880 to a design by Ferdinand Meldahl, it was the first special school for blind students in Denmark and was listed in 1977. The institution relocated to new premises in Hellerup in the 1960s and is now known as the Danish Institute for the Blind and Partially Sighted .
