In 1990, Brodsky marries his student, Italian aristocratic Maria Sozzani, a Russian maternal. Friends say that next to Maria the poet looks peaceful and happy. Three years later, Maria and Joseph give birth to a daughter, Anna.

Joseph Brodsky, Andrew Mellon Professor of Literature, died January 28 in New York, apparently of a heart attack. The renowned poet, Nobel Prize winner and former U.S. Poet Laureate was fifty-five years old.
The Joseph Brodsky Fellowship Fund was founded in the days after Brodsky’s death by a group of his friends in order to give this effort continuing life. This small group of friends consisted of Maria Sozzani Brodsky, Ann Kjellberg, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Sir Isaiah Berlin, Robert Silvers, Dmitry Likhachev, Mstislav Rostropovich and Masha Vorobiov.
In 1990 he married his Sorbonne student, Maria Sozzani, who was of Russian-Italian heritage, and they had a daughter. Only after the collapse of the Soviet Union, Brodsky succeeded in bringing his son, Andrei Basmanov, for a father-son reunion in New York, and they were together for several months.
In the U.S., Brodsky had a daughter, Anna Alexandra, from his marriage to Maria Sozzani. She lived in the UK and has since moved to Italy. Anna does not speak Russian, ...
