  5. Dr. Marilyn Farquhar died on Saturday, November 23, at age 91. A towering figure in the field of cell structure and function, Dr. Farquhar was Sterling Professor of Cell Biology at Yale University, where she worked from 1973 to 1990.

Her work has revealed novel aspects of cell junctions ( 1, 2 ), endocytosis ( 3, 4 ), secretion ( 5 ), podocyte biology and pathology ( 2, 6 ), and G protein functions ( 3, 7 ).

  7. MARILYN FARUHAR The Early Years Although Marilyn Farquhar’s scientific productivity is well documented in 319 publica-tions, her development as a scientist is less well known. She was born on July 11, 1928, in Tulare as a third-generation Californian. Her father, Brooke Gist, was from a pioneer family and worked as a farmer and insurance agent.
