Martha and the Vandellas (known from 1967 to 1972 as Martha Reeves & The Vandellas) were an American vocal girl group formed in Detroit in 1957. The group achieved fame in the 1960s with Motown.

Recorded by Martha and the Vandellas whose version reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and peaked at No. 4 in the UK Singles Chart. Today it is one of Motown's signature songs and is the group's premier signature song. A 1966 cover by the Mamas & the Papas was a minor hit on the Hot 100 reaching No. 73.

Martha Reeves began her career at Motown on the day she first walked beneath the Hitsville USA sign at 2648 W Grand Blvd. in Detroit. She had the business card of a talent scout, and was unaware that he had given her the card to schedule an audition.
