1 de jun. de 2014 · Martin Charles Gutzwiller passed away on 3 March 2014 in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, where he had spent the last two years of his life in close proximity to one of his daughters. His name will remain graven in the history of theoretical physics, through both his trace formula and his wavefunction.
Describes the chaos apparent in simple mechanical systems with the goal of elucidating the connections between classical and quantum mechanics. It develops the relevant ideas of the last two decades via geometric intuition rather than algebraic manipulation.

Martin Gutzwiller was a leading theoretical and math- ematical physicist during the second half of the 20th century, recognized for his contributions to the theory of condensed matter and as one of the creators of quantum chaos theory. Martin was born into an intellectual family in Basel, Swit- zerland.
