Mary Sidney ( Dudley) (c. 1530–1535 [1] – 9 August 1586) was a lady-in-waiting at the court of Elizabeth I, and the mother of Sir Philip Sidney and Mary Sidney Herbert, Countess of Pembroke. A full-length portrait, turned slightly to the left, standing, nearly full face with light auburn hair.
Henry Sidney was born on 20 July 1529, in London, Middlesex, England, his father, Sir William Sidney, was 48 and his mother, Lady Anne Pakenham, was 44. He married Lady Mary Dudley on 29 March 1551, in England. They were the parents of at least 3 sons and 4 daughters.
Lady Sidney was the daughter of Jane Guildford Dudley and John Dudley, Duke of Northumberland, who was executed for his attempts to put Lady Jane Grey on the throne. Under Queen Mary the Dudley brothers were imprisoned and their properties were confiscated, but after Elizabeth came to the throne she gave particular favour to them.
Durch Eduard VI. wurde Henry Sidney im gleichen Jahr zum Ritter geschlagen. Im Mai 1553 heiratete Guildford Dudley, Marys zweitjüngster Bruder, Eduards Cousine Lady Jane Grey. Laut Lady Jane war es Mary Dudley, die sie am 9. Juli 1553 nach Syon House bringen ließ, wo sie vom Tod Eduards und ihrer Thronfolge gemäß dessen Testaments erfuhr.
