In 1903, his daughter, who reportedly had a net worth of $20 million, married Scotsman and military careerist Henry Innes-Ker, 8th Duke of Roxburghe, at Manhattan’s Saint Thomas Church.
Goelet was born on September 29, 1841, in Manhattan, New York City, to Sarah Ogden (1809–1888) and Robert Goelet (1809–1879). It is made in royal rose design, and Miss Goelet wore it on her wedding dress. This lace, according to one of the bridesmaids, was valued at $1250 a yard. The Duke of Roxburghe, the seventeenth peer of the court of St. James, was wedded to Miss May Goelet, daughter of Mrs. Ogden Goelet in November at New York.

She was stratospherically wealthy in her own right, with $500,000 falling to her on her 21st birthday in 1899, along with $10,000,000 held in trust.
