11 de abr. de 2024 · Joseph Maurice Ravel ble født i den baskiske byen Ciboure, nær grensen til Spania, 7. mars 1875. Faren, ingeniøren Pierre-Joseph Ravel, stammet fra Versoix i Sveits. I 1873 giftet han seg med Marie Delouart, som var basker av fødsel. De fikk to sønner, Maurice og Édouard. Kort etter at Maurice var født, flyttet familien til Paris.

Maurice Ravel (1875-1937) était basque par sa mère, Marie Delouart, d’origine très modeste (elle était fille naturelle), descendante de marins et de corsaires. Il est né le 7 mars 1875 dans une maison du quai de Ciboure (aujourd’hui quai Ravel) dont sa tante était concierge, belle demeure de style hollandais qui avait hébergé Mazarin en 1660 pour le mariage de Louis XIV.
