On 13 August 2019, the band officially announced the addition of a seventh member, guitarist Melvin Duffy. Duffy had played as a session musician on Squeeze's previous two albums, and at occasional live shows.

The Lilac Time is a British alternative folk-rock band, originally formed in Herefordshire, England by Stephen Duffy, his brother Nick Duffy and their friend Michael Weston in 1986. The band's name was taken from a line in the Nick Drake song "River Man". The Lilac Time has gone through various line-up changes, with the Duffy brothers as mainstays.

The group's current lineup features Tilbrook and Difford, drummer Simon Hanson, keyboardist Stephen Large (both of whom joined in 2007), percussionist Steve Smith (since 2017), steel guitarist Melvin Duffy (since 2019) and bassist Owen Biddle (since 2020). History. 1974–1982.
Although the band was formed as a side project, they started writing their own songs and it became clear that this was not going to be a short-term venture. In 1997, pedal steel player Melvin Duffy was added to the lineup after a suggestion from Jamie, and he quickly became a permanent member of the band.
