Its an above-average battle book - but I'd skip unless you're specifically interested in the Spanish Civil War. Later, I found out that Bessie was a close friend of both Martha Gellhorn (ex Mrs. Hemingway) and "Papa" - which no doubt accounts for the variance between the High Praise and reality.

It's a must read for anyone studying this period of important political history which was a rehearsal for World War II. Hemingway called "Men In Battle" the "best" of that war.
