He received an Emmy Award [1] and Golden Globe Award [2] for his first acting role on American television as a Nazi SS officer in the 1978 mini-series Holocaust as well as a Tony Award [3] in 1974 for his performance in the play Find Your Way Home .

It was also here he attended London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts as a Fullbright Scholar and as a student of Stella Adler.
