Milwaukee-Downer College was a women's college in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in operation from 1895 to 1964. History. Milwaukee-Downer College was established in 1895 with the merger of two institutions: Milwaukee College and Downer College of Fox Lake, Wisconsin.

Milwaukee-Downer College moved north to merge with Lawrence University, whereas Milwaukee-Downer Seminary returned to the UWM campus in 1964, merging with Milwaukee University School and Milwaukee County Day School to form the University School of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee-Downer College. Downer and E. Hartfod Ave., Milwaukee, Milwaukee County. On September 14, 1848, Mrs. William L. Parsons, the wife of a Congregational minister, opened the Milwaukee Female Seminary at the corner f Milwaukee and East Wells.
In July, 1895, Downer merged with Milwaukee College to form Milwaukee-Downer College under the presidency of Milwaukee College's Ellen Clara Sabin. A new site was purchased on a tract of about ten acres on the northern end of the city of Milwaukee , about half-way between Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee River .
