Díaz expuso en el Salón de París y fue condecorado en 1851. Durante la Guerra Franco-prusiana, se instaló en Bruselas. El 18 de noviembre de 1876 murió en Menton, donde había ido a recuperarse de un resfriado que había cogido durante el entierro de su hijo.
