  1. The Hon. Sir Nicholas Andrew Serota CH (born 27 April 1946) is a British art historian and curator. Director of the Tate from 1988 to 2017, Serota is currently Chairman of Arts Council England, a role which he has held since February 2017.

  2. Nicholas Serota was appointed Chair of Arts Council England in February 2017. He is also a member of the Board of the BBC. Previously he was Director of Tate between 1988 and 2017. During his directorship, Tate opened Tate St Ives (1993) and Tate Modern (2000, expanded in 2016), redefining the Millbank building as Tate Britain (2000).
