Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife songwriting, production, recording duo composed of Nickolas Ashford (May 4, 1942 – August 22, 2011) and Valerie Simpson (born August 26, 1946). Ashford was born in Fairfield, South Carolina, and Simpson in the Bronx, New York City.

Ashford, along with songwriting partner and wife Valerie Simpson, penned some of Motown's biggest hits for artists such as Marvin Gaye, Chaka Khan and Diana Ross, among others.
