Krell: Nicolaus K, kursächsischer Kanzler unter Christian I. Er wurde geboren um das Jahr 1551 zu Leipzig, wo sein Vater als Rathsherr und Rechtsgelehrter wirkte. Gleich diesem widmete er sich den juristischen Studien.
Nikolaus Krell, zeitgenössisch auch Nicolaus Crell, (* um 1550 in Leipzig; † 9. Oktober 1601 in Dresden) war ab 1589 der calvinistische Kanzler des Kurfürsten Christian I. von Sachsen . Leben. Nach der Ausbildung an der Fürstenschule in Grimma, wo er vom 27. Juli 1568 bis 1. März 1571 Schüler war, studierte er in Leipzig.

As Chancellor, he had pursued pro-Calvinist policies and a foreign policy that turned away from loyalty to the Habsburgs, instead acting in concert with John Casimir, Henry IV of France and Elizabeth I of England.
Nach Regierungsantritt Kurfürst Christians II. von Sachsen wurde Krell - nach fast zehnjähriger Gefangenschaft auf der Festung Königstein - am 9.10.1601 in Dresden auf dem Neumarkt öffentlich enthauptet. Heute erinnert auf dem Neumarkt ein Pflasterstein mit der Initiale „Kr“ an die Hinrichtung Krells.
