Cuando grabó 'No Reason to Cry', llego lo mas cerca que pudo para alcanzar este deso. Parte de 'No Reason To Cry' se identificada con el tipo de pop-rock que Clapton había estado haciendo desde el inicio de su carrera en solitario, pero la música más memorable del disco se produce cuando Clapton colabora con los miembros de The Band y otros invitados.
Grabación. No Reason to Cry fue grabado en los estudios Shangri-La, propiedad de The Band, en marzo de 1976, y contó con la colaboración de los miembros del grupo: Rick Danko coescribió y cantó con Clapton en «All Our Past Times». Además, incluyó un dúo con Bob Dylan en el tema «Sign Language».
