11 de dic. de 2012 · Officers and Gentlemen is the second novel in Waugh's brilliant Sword of Honor trilogy recording the tumultuous wartime adventures of Guy Crouchback (called "the finest work of fiction in English to emerge from World War II" by the Atlantic Monthly), which also comprises Men at Arms and Unconditional Surrender.
Though I liked the first book a little better, and which I would categorize as one of the best comic novels I've read in a long time, Officers and Gentlemen has its strong points too. For one, it does a nice job of depicting the state of panic in the British mindset circa 1940 and 1941, with the frightening pattern of loss and retreat.
