Ohio Wesleyan Female College was a women's college, operating for two-and-a-half decades, until it merged into Ohio Wesleyan University in 1877. After starting as a Delaware, Ohio academy for women in 1850, equivalent to a high school, it expanded its program in 1853 to begin service as a college.

The Ohio Wesleyan Female College, established in 1853, merged with the university in 1877. Between 1876 and 1888, enrollment tripled and music education greatly increased, yet no major buildings were built in this time.

1850: Ohio Wesleyan University established as an all-male college. 1853: Ohio Wesleyan Female college established. 1877: The two colleges merge. 1960s-1970s: Feminist Fortnight first held on campus. Spring 1976: The first introduction to Women's Studies course taught by Prof. Kaaren Courtney.
The Ohio Wesleyan Female College was established in 1853. In 1857, the female college moved to Monnett Hall, named for school benefactress Mary Monnett Bain. In 1877, the female college merged with the University, which became coeducational.
