  2. 25 de feb. de 2021 · Opchanacanough maintained the peace, but the lucrative tobacco crop meant even more prime land taken from the Powhatans and, in 1622, he attacked the settlements, killing over 300 colonists in the first raid known as the Indian Massacre of 1622. The war continued until 1626 when Opchanacanough sued for peace, but hostilities continued afterwards.

  3. In the spring of 1644, Opechancanough led one last uprising, killing some 500 colonists. This time, however, he was captured. Later he was murdered at Jamestown, reportedly by an English prison guard. In 1646 the governor of Virginia forced the Indians to accept a treaty under which they ceded much of their land to the English. Died: 1644 or 1646.

At his death in 1646 he was said to be nearly 100 years old, which would make him older than Powhatan. Opechancanough inherited the Powhatan kingdom through his mother. He ruled from about 1628 until his death in 1646.
