Opechancanough or Opchanacanough was a chief of the Powhatan tribe of what is now Virginia in the United States. He became chief after the death of his elder brother, Wahunsonacock . He gave up on diplomacy with the English settlers of Virginia and twice tried to force them to abandon the region, in 1622 and 1644 .
