Orpheus, ancient Greek legendary hero endowed with superhuman musical skills. He became the patron of a religious movement based on sacred writings said to be his own. Traditionally, Orpheus was the son of a Muse (probably Calliope, the patron of epic poetry) and Oeagrus, a king of Thrace (other versions give Apollo ).

Orpheus (Greek: Oρφεύς, transl.: Orphéus, classical pronunciation: [or.pʰeú̯s]) was a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek religion. "Aristotle believed that Orpheus never existed; but to all the other ancient writers he was a real person, although he lived in remote antiquity.
Orfeo (en griego Ὀρφεύς) es un personaje de la mitología griega. Según una creencia bastante difundida, sería hijo de Apolo (o Eagro) y de una de las musas, Calíope. Según los relatos, cuando tocaba su lira, las fieras se calmaban, y los hombres se reunían para oírlo y hacer descansar sus almas.
