Orpheus' whole thing is that his head is kind of in the clouds, not in reality. It's essentially your classic "hopeless artist sees pretty girl and immediately falls in love." From a storytelling perspective, it makes the audience believe in his love because Orpheus himself never doubted it. He's also the son of Calliope, muse of epic poems.
