Otto Frisch wurde am 1. Oktober 1904 in Wien geboren. 1926 promovierte er an der Universität Wien und forschte anschließend an den Universitäten Berlin und Hamburg. In den frühen Dreißigerjahren war Otto Frisch auf Grund seiner jüdischen Abstammung gezwungen, seine Arbeit in Deutschland aufzugeben und zog nach Kopenhagen.
