In 2003, German political scientist Nikolaus Werz classified Law and Justice as a centrist, law-and-order party that "advocates a strong state, the fight against corruption and the tightening of criminal law".

Alexander III of Russia escalated anti-Jewish policies. Beginning in the 1880s, waves of anti-Jewish pogroms swept across different regions of the empire for several decades.

Lithuania has an embassy in Kyiv and an honorary consulates in Lviv. Ukraine has an embassy in Vilnius and three honorary consulates (in Klaipėda, Šalčininkai and Visaginas).

The Dutch Mennonites also migrated as far as the Russian Empire, where they were offered land along the Volga River. Some settlers left for Siberia in search for fertile land.
