Eslanda, known as Essie, was an accomplished anthropologist, author, and actor, and a passionate advocate for social justice and civil rights: an anti-racist, anti-colonialist, and feminist.
Eslanda Robeson’s post-1945 international thought focused on women’s engagement in international politics, Third World and African American freedom struggles. Through a variety of avenues – journalism, friendships, and international travels – and in her capacity as an “insider-outsider,” Robeson was able to put into practice many of the things that she advocated.
