Pawn Hearts is the fourth album by English progressive rock band Van der Graaf Generator, released on 12 November 1971 on Charisma Records. [1] The original album features just three tracks, including the side-long suite "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers". The album was not commercially successful in the UK, but reached number one in Italy.
4 de dic. de 2023 · One that shares that album's more esoteric themes, but also prominently sprinkles Robert Fripp and, lets say, Elton Dean of The Soft Machine, into the mix. That's the vibe that I took from Pawn Hearts. It's a musical journey that definitely encompasses difficult terrain in places, but was ultimately well worth it.
10 de abr. de 2021 · Seemingly, the lighthouse keeper forgot to turn on the light and everyone on board has died. And when Robert Fripp - who was (again) a guest on the album - has delivered a great guitar-solo and a Mellotron choir seemed to hint on celestial afterlife, we had to consider that we have listened to the genre's defining masterpiece.

16 de mar. de 2023 · The addition of Robert Fripp as guest guitarist (mainly on A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers) only enhances further this progressive gem. The band disbanded after this album, but Peter Hammill kept the flame alive with its solo projects (the formidable trio albums The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage, Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night , and In Camera ).
