Equipped with a separate campus one-eighth of a mile from Brown’s main campus, Pembroke was overseen by the Dean of Pembroke College.
The Pembroke Center was founded in 1981, a decade after Pembroke College, the coordinate women's college in Brown University, merged with The [men's] College. Establishing the Pembroke Center Brown University established the Pembroke Center in 1981 as a research center on gender, with historian Joan Wallach Scott as its founding director.
