Conata is a ghost town in Pennington County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The GNIS classifies it as a populated place. History Conata Water Tower footings. Conata had its start in 1907 when the Milwaukee Railroad was extended to that point. A post office called Conata was established in 1908, and remained in operation until 1954.
