Field Marshal Philip Walhouse Chetwode, 1st Baron Chetwode, 7th Baronet of Oakley, GCB, OM, GCSI, KCMG, DSO, GCStJ (21 September 1869 – 6 July 1950), was a senior British Army officer. He saw action during the Second Boer War, during which he was present at the Siege of Ladysmith in December 1899.

Sir Philip Walhouse Chetwode (1869-1950) served as a cavalry commander during World War One on both Western and (more effectively) Palestine Fronts. Sponsored Links. Chetwode's early service was in Burma and he subsequently saw action during the South African War (1899-1902).

Allenby ultimately settled on a plan devised by one of his most competent officers, Lt. Gen. Philip Chetwode, which called for an attack on Beersheba at the other end of the Ottoman line. Beersheba itself was an ancient but otherwise unremarkable desert town at the foot of the Judean Hills.

General Chetwode led the newly reorganised Desert Column (mounted advance units) from December 1916; Major General Chauvel was his Second in Command and assumed command in late April 1917, when Chetwode replaced the Commander of the Eastern Frontier Force.
