He was always overshadowed by Luther, but the Protestant Reformation would not have developed or succeeded as it did without him.

Philipp Melanchthon (Bretten , 16 februari 1497 – Wittenberg , 19 april 1560) was een Duits filosoof en theoloog. Hij was de rechterhand van Maarten Luther en daarmee een belangrijk geestelijke. Leven en werk. Melanchthon werd geboren als "Phillip Schwarzerdt", kind van Georg en Barbara Schwarzerdt.
