Pierre de Rigaud de Vaudreuil de Cavagnial, marquis de Vaudreuil (22 November 1698 – 4 August 1778 [1]) was a Canadian-born colonial governor of French Canada in North America. He was governor of French Louisiana (1743–1753) and in 1755 became the last Governor-General of New France.

Pierre de Rigaud, Marquis de Vaudreuil, was obviously a highly strung, complex person who bottled up his emotions and let no one around him suspect his inner turmoil. His crise de nerfs of 1756 when he sought to be recalled, even though it would have terminated his career, is proof.

Vaudreuil-Cavagnal, Pierre de Rigaud, Marquis de (1704-1778), last governor of New France (1755-60), was born at Montreal in 1704, the son of Philippe de Rigaud de Vaudreuil and Louise Elisabeth Joybert de Soulanges. He became a captain in the troupes de la marine, and in 1733 was appointed governor of Three Rivers.
