For years the director tried to get Miracles made, but it never panned out, in large part due to the fact that Capra’s post-WWII career never quite reached the heights he’d achieved before serving his adopted country during the war years.
Frank Capra's last film, Pocketful of Miracles, is a remake of his own 1933 picture, Lady for a Day. The newer film is shot in colorful widescreen and is set at Christmas. And the story has more scenes and subplots, making it about an hour longer than the earlier film.
Pocketful of Miracles. Apple Annie is an impish, gin-swilling New York City apple peddler who, through various enterprises, has saved enough to support her daughter--who has been at a posh European finishing school and has never seen her mother. The young woman, who thinks her mother is a society matron, is about to visit "The Big Apple."
