Batoni, Pompeo. Su primer aprendizaje artístico fue en el taller del padre, platero y orfebre, que sin duda le inculcó un cierto gusto por la precisión dibujística y la perfección técnica. Estudió más tarde con dos pintores menores de su ciudad natal, Lombardi y Brugieri, discípulo este último del clasicista romano Carlo Maratti.

Pompeo Batoni was born in Lucca, the son of a goldsmith, Paolino Batoni and his wife, Chiara Sesti. On 5 February 1708 he was baptized in the Basilica of San Frediano.
