He also joined Stahlhelm, a German paramilitary organization, and considered a run for President of Germany until he was discouraged from doing so by multiple individuals.

He was the eldest of the four children and the eldest of the three sons of Friedrich, the last reigning Prince of Waldeck-Pyrmont and Princess Bathildis of Schaumburg-Lippe.
Crown Prince Wilhelm supported Adolf Hitler at the time of the rise of Nazism. He probably hoped that Hitler would allow the return of the royal family to the Reich throne. On this day in 1882, the last Crown Prince of the German Empire was born.
