20 de ene. de 2023 · George August, future George II, was born on 10 November 1683 at Herrenhausen in Hanover. He was, therefore, the last British monarch to be born outside Britain. He was the eldest child of George I and Sophia Dorothea of Celle (l. 1666-1726). His parents' marriage had been one of political convenience, and there was little love between the two.
George II, also known as George Augustus was the oldest son of George I and ascended the throne of Great Britain and Ireland and the Electorship of Hanover at the age of 43, following the death of his father. In 1705 he married Caroline of Ansbach (died 1737); their children included Frederick, Prince of Wales, and William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland.
Great Britain. In 1714, Queen Anne died and Caroline's grandfather became George I and her father Prince of Wales. At the age of one year, Caroline accompanied her mother and elder sisters, the Princesses Anne and Amelia, to Great Britain, and the family resided at St James's Palace, London. She was then styled as a Princess of Great Britain.
Princess Amelia's grandfather succeeded her to become George I of Great Britain, in accordance with the provisions of the Act of Settlement 1701. Amelia's father, now heir apparent to the throne of Great Britain, was made Duke of Cornwall and created Prince of Wales on 27 September 1714.
