First marriage [ edit ] In Hildburghausen on 6 March 1776, Francis married Princess Sophie of Saxe-Hildburghausen , a daughter of his Ernestine kinsman, Duke Ernst Friedrich III and Princess Ernestine of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach .
