  1. Frederick VIII (Danish: Christian Frederik Vilhelm Carl; 3 June 1843 – 14 May 1912) was King of Denmark from 29 January 1906 until his death in 1912. The eldest son of King Christian IX, nicknamed the Father-in-law of Europe, Frederick was related to royalty throughout Europe.

  2. Frederik VIII became king in 1906, as the second monarch from the House of Glücksburg. In 1869 he married Princess Lovisa of Sweden-Norway with whom he had eight children, of whom the eldest sons, Prince Christian (X) and Prince Carl (Haakon VII) became the kings of Denmark and Norway respectively.

Frederick served in the disastrous Danish–German War of 1864, which lost the duchies of Schleswig, Holstein, and Lauenburg for Denmark. He then assisted his father, Christian IX, in affairs of state.
