Srinivasa Nayaka, also known as Purandara Dasa (IAST: Purandara dāsa) (c. 1484 – c. 1564) was a composer, singer and a Haridasa philosopher from present-day Karnataka, India. He was a follower of Madhvacharya's Dvaita philosophy. He was one of the chief founding proponents of Carnatic music.
One of the oldest and richest musical traditions of India, Carnatic music owes popularisation and evolution to pioneer Purandara Dasa who was born in 1484 CE in present-day Karnataka. His immense musical contributions have earned him the esteemed “Father of Carnatic Music.”
