Welcome to Queen Elizabeth Grammar School. QEGS is one of the top independent boys’ schools in the country and has been educating boys for over 400 years. Now, we aim to combine the best of a traditional approach with an openness to innovation to be a down-to-earth school which prepares boys to take their place in the modern world.
Queen Elizabeth Grammar School (QEGS) is an independent, public school (day school, no boarding) for boys in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. The school was founded by Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1591 at the request of leading citizens in Wakefield (headed by Thomas Savile and his two sons) 75 in total and some of whom formed the first governing body.

The QEGS adventure covers ages 7-18 and as many of our former Savilians will agree, it’s an experience not to be missed. It’s our way of helping to keep costs to a minimum. The fees for the academic year starting September 2022 are: Application Fee & Deposit A non-refundable fee of £50 is charged to process every application. When you accept a place at QEGS, we request a deposit of £200. We refund this deposit after your son leaves the school.
Founded in 1564 by Royal Charter, our school has been helping young people to secure outstanding academic results and providing a well-rounded experience for over 450 years. The school encourages students to take responsibility for their learning from the moment they join, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges they face on their journey at QEGS.
