R. J. Thomas at a union meeting at the Dodge Chicago Plant, 1944. Roland Jay Thomas (June 9, 1900 – April 18, 1967), also known as R. J. Thomas, was a left-wing leader of the United Auto Workers in the 1930s and 1940s. He grew up in eastern Ohio and attended the College of Wooster for two years.
Robert “RJ” Thomas is one of the original Navy SEALs. He found himself in a gunfight at Ha Tien Republic of Vietnam in March 1969. At the time, Navy SEALs were classified elite extensions of the Navy Underwater Demolition Teams: ST-1 in Coronado, California and ST-2 in Little Creek, Virginia.
Petty Officer R. J. Thomas, a U.S. Navy SEAL, wound up in deep trouble one day in 1969. As he was riding in a UH-1 Huey helicopter gunship during a scouting mission, the aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed, killing or wounding everyone on board. Despite serious injuries, Thomas helped drag the flight crew away from the downed helicopter.
