18 de may. de 2018 · Butler, Richard Austen (1902–82). Born in India and educated at Cambridge, ‘Rab’ Butler entered Parliament in 1929 as MP for Saffron Walden. As president of the Board of Education he was responsible for the Education Act (1944) which introduced a tripartite secondary system and the ‘11-plus’ examination.

He was in charge of the Education Act of 1944, which changed the way secondary schools in England and Wales taught. It is also known as the “Butler Act” because it was named after him.
Rab Butler. Richard Austen Butler, Baron Butler of Saffron Walden, (9 December 1902 – 8 March 1982), also known as R. A. Butler and familiarly known from his initials as Rab, was a prominent British Conservative Party politician; he was effectively Deputy Prime Minister to Anthony Eden and Harold Macmillan, although he only held the official title for a brief period in 1962–63.
