Bio: Rebekah Baines Johnson was the mother of President Lyndon B. Johnson. She was born on June 26, 1881, and married Samuel Ealy Johnson, Jr. on August 20, 1907. She published a genealogy entitled A Family Album, 1953-1957. She died on September 12, 1958.

LBJ's mother, Rebekah Baines Johnson, was a Baptist, as were most of her ancestors for several generations. She once expressed the view that she was "grateful for...my Baptist upbringing, sermons, prayer-meeting and Sunday School." Her father, Joseph Wilson Baines, was a leading member of the Baptist Church in Blanco, Texas.

It was in this home that she taught elocution lessons and debating techniques to the neighborhood children. Lyndon must have listened well to her instructions, for he too taught debate strategies for a school team.
