Richard Hakluyt (born c. 1552, London?—died November 23, 1616, England) was an English geographer noted for his political influence, his voluminous writings, and his persistent promotion of Elizabethan overseas expansion, especially the colonization of North America.
Richard Hakluyt fue, sin ninguna duda, el más importante geógrafo e historiador británico del siglo XVI. Ambos padres murieron cuando él era bastante joven, dejando a Richard y sus hermanos al cuidado de un primo mayor. Richard recibió una buena educación primero en la Westminster School, y luego en Christ Church, Oxford.
