Richard Rogers. Hijo de padres angloitalianos, su primo era el célebre arquitecto italiano Ernesto Rogers. Al estallar la Segunda Guerra Mundial su familia se trasladó a Inglaterra, donde Richard pasó la infancia de internado en internado. Disléxico, según ha contado él mismo en más de una ocasión, no le fue fácil salir adelante.
Richard Charles Rodgers fue un compositor estadounidense considerado uno de los más importantes entre los compositores de musicales de Broadway de la época junto a Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter o Jule Styne. Compuso canciones clásicas como Blue Moon (1934) así como numerosos musicales como The Sound of Music.
Richard Rodgers (1902-1979) and Lorenz Hart (1895-1943) wrote their first shows together when both were still students attending Columbia University. After writing a series of musical comedies for the University's Varsity Shows and other charities, they made their professional debut with the song "Any Old Place With You," featured in the 1919 Broadway musical comedy A LONELY ROMEO.
