Robert Siodmak fue un director alemán que consiguió un éxito sin precedentes en América. Sus primeros trabajos incluyen el periodismo y la escritura de guiones cinematográficos, hasta que debutó como director en 1930 en la película alemana Menschen am Sonntag (1930), que codirigió junto a Edgar G. Ulmer.
