Francis Albert Rollo Russell (11 July 1849 – 30 March 1914) was an English meteorologist and scientific writer. Russell was also an alternative cancer treatment advocate who promoted the idea that cancer is caused by excessive consumption of meat , alcohol , coffee and tea .

Rev. Sereno Bishop (18271909) of Honolulu made one of the. –. first reports of unusual optical phenomena following the Kra-katau eruption. By mid-September 1883 Bishop had made the speculative leap that the optical phenomena he had seen in Honolulu were caused by the eruption of Krakatau in August.
